The main character in Neil Giaman’s illustrated masterpiece The Sandman (published by Vertigo comics, a division of DC) is Dream, the personification of dreams, imagination, creation, etc.

He is but one of seven siblings, The Endless. Wikipedia describes them as having, “existed since the dawn of time and … thought to be among the most powerful beings in the existence. They are distinct from and more powerful than most gods.”

They are, in order: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire and Despair (twins — a point worth noting) and Delirium (who used to be Delight). It is not too hard to figure out who is whom among them:

“ . . . a strikingly beautiful figure whose gender is mutable, becoming male, female, both, or neither as the situation warrants. It is often referred to as “sibling” by its brethren , particularly Dream. Desire blends…
