bits and pieces for your Thanksgiving enjoyment . . .
Oh Thanksgiving Day,
a feast most equivocal.
How like us you are.

“When asked if my cup is half-full or half-empty my only response is that I am thankful I have a cup.” — Sam Lefkowitz

Ode to Mrs. Spratt*:
Those of us who love to entertain,
are glad for friends whose appetites remain.
For those who worry not of pants too tight,
Who sop and gulp and swallow every bite.
Your masticating fervence we adore,
Your eager pleas . . . “ ‘sppose I’ll have some more!”
And whether ’tis of poultry, pork, or mutton,
We cooks love having friends with chins, you gluttons!
“I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land.” — Jon Stewart
