I’m actually rather pink — but lobster red when my melanin-deficient skin spends more than a passing moment in the sun.

I take no particular pride in this fact of my birth but I do recognize both the societal privilege it bestows upon me as and the shame and disappointment I feel when I see how other similarly-tinted folks relish their pale, bigoted station.

The hate I rebuke. To the extent I am able, I try to understand what’s going on and work to eliminate it.

I’d like to echo, Sam, your calling out the pale racist gunman as the pinnacle of this renewed bigotry and hatred. I would be glad if we could pry the gun out of his hands — cold, dead hands or otherwise.

But mayonnaise . . . I can’t give it up, friend. I inherited Duke’s from daddy’s side of the family and Hellman’s from my mom’s. Hot sauce is a far too 🔥 for me, but I will defend to the death your right and respect for spicy condiments! Racism and bigotry sucks.

Here’s a great singer, whiter in appearance than even me, with a clever cover and perhaps a cryptic message of hope for us all:
