Nice opinion piece Phaylen.

Can you believe it?

We are in agreement on an entertainment figure, mostly.

In all of entertainment, I’m least familiar with Rip and Hip-hop and so woefully incapable of rendering any opinion whatsoever regarding his music.

I am certainly not black enough to criticize Kanye vis a vis race — race but I’m gonna grab a ring-side seat and a big ol’ box of popcorn to watch while those who are, do.

Miles Klee had a pretty good take on this in his article about Ice T:

I am, however, human enough to feel a similar distress as you do at Mr. West’s apparent obliviousness.

Surely privilege plays a role, and perhaps some mental illness as well, though my instincts tell me he’s also trying to leverage mental illness as a justification for something unjustifiable.

Kanye’s distance from his own humanity best explains his troubling relationships with history, Trump, and I’d wager with his future as well!
